Scripsit inter alia ἔμπορον: quam in Mercatore Plautus imitatus, sic loquitur Prolog. v. 9. 10.

rusticus quidam, qui cum Iovem et Mercurium hospitiô excepisser sub pauperetecto, una cum Baucide uxore in arbores conversus est. et domus eius in templum, ut refert Ovid. Metam. l. 8. Fabula haec docet, hospitalitatem et frugalitatem esse Deo giatam, et apud Poetam (cuius nonnulli existimant Philemonem hunc fuisse villicum) exstant elegantissimae rerum rusticarum hypotyposes.
